AC Shadows Introduces Unexpected AoT Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a unexpected partnership that breaks usual predictions, the game developer has announced an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing free bonus story content for Shadows players.
Peculiar Questline Disclosed
According to the official statement, "An unusual meeting leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where rumors of prohibited rituals and fearsome metamorphoses echo through the shadows." The narrative introduces a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who charges the duo with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a clandestine cult.
The mission focuses on "strange experiments and a terrifying foe" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Locations and Changes
The teaser highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The preview ends with a dramatic scene showing a character, probably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Items and Bonus Material
Players who successfully complete the adventure will acquire an unique katana in addition to multiple items secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-based costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Exclusive weapons
- Survey Corps steed
Newest Free Story Update
This release also brings the game's third complimentary story episode, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature skills: Naoe reveals a dramatic variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may finally explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Crossovers
This marks scarcely the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime series. The series formerly featured a 2020 crossover story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that clearly nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
