Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
